❓ How To Use

🔹 For Low Range (2 – 40 ppm)

  1. Take 25 ml of the water sample in the test jar.
  2. Add one spoon of TH 1S and mix well until dissolved.
  3. Add 10–12 drops of TH 2 and mix properly.
  4. If the solution turns blue, it indicates no hardness. If it turns red, hardness is present.
  5. Add TH 3 dropwise, counting each drop while mixing, until the color changes from red to blue.
  6. If the color does not change after 20 drops, hardness is above 40 ppm.

Calculation:
Hardness (ppm as CaCO₃) = 2 × number of drops of TH 3

🔹 For High Range (25 – 500 ppm)

  1. Take 10 ml of the water sample in the test jar.
  2. Add one spoon of TH 1S and mix well.
  3. Add 10–12 drops of TH 2 and mix.
  4. Add TH 5 dropwise, counting drops while mixing, until the color changes from red to blue.

Calculation:
Hardness (ppm as CaCO₃) = 25 × number of drops of TH 5

⚙️ How It Works

In alkaline conditions, calcium and magnesium ions react with Eriochrome Black T indicator to produce a wine-red color. During titration, EDTA complexes with calcium and magnesium ions, and once fully complexed, the solution changes from wine red to blue, indicating the endpoint of total hardness.

  • Ensure the test jar is clean and rinsed before use
  • Use the correct sample volume (25 ml for low range / 10 ml for high range)
  • Add reagents in the exact sequence for accurate results
  • Mix properly after each reagent addition
  • Add titrant dropwise and count carefully
  • Observe the color change (red → blue) to determine the endpoint
  • Perform testing at room temperature for best accuracy
  • Always close reagent bottles tightly after use
