INDION® 225 Na is a premium-grade, high-capacity strong acid cation exchange resin supplied in the sodium form. Manufactured from a cross-linked styrene divinylbenzene copolymer with sulphonic acid functional groups, it is designed primarily for water softening applications. Its excellent exchange capacity, uniform bead size, and mechanical strength provide reliable hardness removal and long operational life in residential, commercial, and industrial water treatment systems.

Apart from water softening, INDION® 225 Na can also be used as the cation exchange resin in the hydrogen cycle of two-stage demineralization plants. Its wide operating pH range, good chemical resistance, and high exchange capacity make it a dependable choice for continuous water treatment operations.

🔧 Installation & Operating Guidelines

  1. Install the resin in a clean pressure vessel designed for ion exchange applications.
  2. Use appropriate supporting gravel and underdrain systems where required.
  3. Thoroughly backwash the resin before commissioning to remove any fine particles and properly classify the resin bed.
  4. Regenerate using a suitable sodium chloride (brine) solution for water softening applications.
  5. Ensure chlorine is absent from the feed water, as prolonged exposure can damage the resin.
  6. Operate within the recommended temperature and pH limits.
  7. Follow the equipment manufacturer's recommended service and backwash flow rates.
  8. Maintain proper regeneration intervals to achieve optimum resin life and performance.

⚙️ How It Works

INDION® 225 Na operates on the principle of ion exchange. As hard water passes through the resin bed, calcium (Ca²⁺) and magnesium (Mg²⁺) ions responsible for hardness are exchanged with sodium (Na⁺) ions attached to the resin. The treated water exits free from hardness, preventing scale formation in pipelines, boilers, RO systems, and process equipment.

Once the resin reaches its exchange capacity, it is regenerated using a sodium chloride solution, which restores the sodium ions and prepares the resin for the next service cycle.

🥽 Safety & Handling

  • Store the resin in its original sealed packaging.
  • Never allow the resin to dry out during storage.
  • Keep the resin completely moist using clean demineralized water if necessary.
  • Store in a shaded area at a recommended temperature between 20°C and 40°C.
  • Handle regeneration chemicals such as acids and alkalis with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Prevent eye and skin contact with regeneration chemicals.
  • Follow all standard industrial safety procedures during handling and regeneration.

⚠️ Limitations and Precautions

  • Not suitable for applications where free chlorine is present continuously.
  • Oxidizing agents can reduce resin life if proper precautions are not taken.
  • Operate within the recommended maximum temperature of 140°C.
  • Proper regeneration is essential to maintain exchange capacity.
  • Resin should never be allowed to dry during storage or operation.
  • Excess suspended solids or fouling contaminants should be removed before the softener to maximize resin life.
  • Performance depends on proper system design, regeneration, and operating conditions.
