INDION® 225 H is a premium-grade strong acid cation exchange resin supplied in the hydrogen (H⁺) form. Manufactured from a cross-linked styrene divinylbenzene copolymer with sulphonic acid functional groups, it features a gel-type structure that provides high exchange capacity, excellent ion exchange kinetics, and reliable long-term performance.
Designed primarily as the first-stage cation exchanger in demineralization (DM) plants, INDION® 225 H efficiently removes dissolved cations such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, and iron from water. It is suitable for both co-flow and counter-flow regeneration systems, while special grades are also available for mixed bed and condensate polishing applications.

🔧 Installation & Operating Guidelines
- Install the resin in a clean cation exchange vessel with an appropriate underdrain system.
- Backwash the resin before initial operation to classify the resin bed and remove fine particles.
- Operate within the recommended temperature and pH limits.
- Regenerate the exhausted resin using a suitable acid solution as specified by the plant design.
- Ensure feed water is free from free chlorine to prevent resin degradation.
- Follow the recommended service and regeneration flow rates provided by the equipment manufacturer.
- Monitor treated water quality regularly to determine regeneration frequency.
- Maintain proper pretreatment to minimize resin fouling and extend service life.
⚙️ How It Works
INDION® 225 H functions through the ion exchange process. As untreated water passes through the resin bed, positively charged ions (cations) such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, and iron are exchanged with hydrogen (H⁺) ions attached to the resin. The released hydrogen ions combine with anions in the subsequent anion exchange stage to produce highly purified demineralized water.
Once the resin reaches exhaustion, it is regenerated using an acid solution, restoring the hydrogen ions and preparing the resin for the next service cycle.
🥽 Safety & Handling
- Store the resin in its original sealed packaging.
- Never allow the resin to dry out during storage.
- Keep the resin moist using clean demineralized water if required.
- Store in a shaded area between 20°C and 40°C.
- Handle regeneration acids with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Prevent contact of acids with skin and eyes.
- Follow all standard industrial safety procedures during regeneration and handling.

⚠️ Limitations and Precautions
- Not suitable for continuous exposure to free chlorine or strong oxidizing agents.
- Operate within the recommended maximum temperature of 120°C.
- Resin should never be allowed to dry during storage or operation.
- Approximately 8% volume change occurs when converting between sodium and hydrogen forms; vessel design should accommodate this expansion.
- Excess suspended solids, oil, and organic contaminants should be removed prior to the resin bed.
- Proper regeneration is essential to maintain exchange capacity and service life.
- System performance depends on correct operating conditions, regeneration practices, and adequate pretreatment.
