INDION® ISR is a specially developed catalytic filtration media designed for the efficient removal of dissolved iron from groundwater. Unlike conventional ion exchange resins, INDION® ISR is an insoluble catalytic media that oxidizes dissolved ferrous iron (Fe²⁺) into insoluble ferric iron (Fe³⁺), which is then retained within the media bed and removed during backwashing.
The media serves both as a catalyst and a filtration medium, eliminating the need for chemical regeneration. With its spherical bead structure, excellent catalytic activity, and simple water backwash regeneration, INDION® ISR is ideal for borewell water treatment, iron removal plants, and pretreatment systems for RO and ion exchange plants.

🔧 Installation & Operating Guidelines
- Rinse the media with at least 10 bed volumes of demineralized water before initial service.
- Feed water should contain less than 10 ppm suspended solids; pretreatment is recommended if suspended solids are higher.
- Remove free chlorine before the water enters the media bed.
- Maintain the recommended service and backwash flow rates for optimum performance.
- For feed iron concentrations around 10 ppm, use treated water for backwashing to prevent contamination of the lower bed.
- Backwash the media at the specified flow rate to effectively remove precipitated iron and prevent media choking.
- Continuous operation should include backwashing approximately every 12 hours, while intermittently operated systems should limit service cycles to 5–6 hours before backwashing.

⚠️ Limitations and Precautions
- Designed specifically for removing dissolved ferrous iron (Fe²⁺).
- Does not effectively remove bacterial iron, soluble organic iron, or colloidal iron.
- Feed water should have a pH above 6.5 and adequate dissolved oxygen.
- Free chlorine and oil must be absent from the influent.
- Water containing more than 10 ppm dissolved iron should be pretreated by aeration, clarification, and filtration before using INDION® ISR as a polishing media.
- For RO and ion exchange pretreatment, additional filtration may be required to reduce residual iron below 0.1 ppm.
- Polyphosphates and other sequestering agents should be dosed after the INDION® ISR unit.
- Proper backwashing is essential to prevent media fouling and maintain catalytic performance.
